10 things to make you wake up happy in the morning!
Saying no, I can’t or even I’ll think about it and then procrastinate is often the easier way out. It’s harder to move out of that comfort zone where I might fail or even be rejected.
Although change can sometimes feel scary, if you do say yes, the chances are that your life can expand and open up to new experiences and who knows maybe even some happy adventures!
“Things alter for the worse spontaneously, if they be not altered for the better designedly.”A famous quote by Francis Bacon, means that in actual fact, if you sit there and wait for things to happen, you will not be in a position to alter them the way you want and for the better!
So besides not procrastinating, what other important things can make you happy and wake up with enough positive energy in the morning to last you the whole day?
Exercise more and eat better
10 minutes a day should be the bare minimum. If you have to stick to the minimum, make sure you mix it up with some fresh air and if possible some sunshine on your face. Find some time to eat well. You will get plenty of advice from Marcela’s Healthy tips on this!
Dah! If you need the energy for the rest of the day, make sure you get enough sleep in a well-ventilated room and turn off all those TV pilot lights at night! In fact you shouldn’t really have a TV in the bedroom but what the hell, this blog is about being happy so I’m not going to be a spoil sport here!
There is a lot of study out there to confirm this. In fact two hours a week to truly help others will give you satisfaction and a sense of well being. Even spending money on others often has a stronger happy trigger than spending money on yourself. A new term called ‘prosocial spending’ was recently coined for this good deed. Just in case you are in the mood right now to buy something for someone, here is the link to Amazon! If you don’t know what to buy then drop me an email and I will give you some ideas and an address where to send them to! 🙂
Leave the house, go outside!
This should be combined with my first point. As soon as you see blue skies, head for the door, make it a point to get a some of that fresh air. Use the time to think and meditate.
Spend time with family, meet friends
And not just the virtual ones, make an effort to call up a friend, meet up for a coffee or even better go out for a brisk walk and talk about life’s trivialities, laugh a little it’s the best therapy!
Think about others and be grateful
In other words, be the cause of other people’s gratitude and in turn notice the good things done by others and appreciate them. Thank you is a very powerful word!
Smile at one person a day
You will be surprised on how powerful this simple deed can be. Don’t worry about feeling silly, the moment you get a super smile back it will all be worth it!
Try and commute less
Whether it’s the long distances or the immense traffic, if you can avoid this stressful time it will surely make you happier! As drastic as it may sound, some solutions could include, change house or change job, walk or cycle. Even a motorbike could work, though ride safely!
Find time to be alone
Time to meditate or do the things you love to do. ‘Me time’ is as important as family and friends time.
Organise the things around you
Whether it’s the physical clutter in your house or the pending bills and things to do. Plan a day, maybe a rainy weekend and get things sorted out!
